Switch-hitter Tommy Edman hits right vs. RHP again... What gives?

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 10:33:09 GMT

ST. LOUIS - As the only switch-hitter on the active Cardinals roster, Tommy Edman will usually bat left-handed against right-handed pitchers and right-handed against left-handed pitchers. On several occasions recently, including in Wednesday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers, Edman opted for a right-on-right battle, an unconventional route among switch hitters. He picked up one hit in three at-bats against Brewers ace Corbin Burnes.Edman has also hit right-handed against right-handed pitchers when facing the Detroit Tigers and Seattle Mariners this season. He's ended up 2-for-9 (.222 batting average) in such situations this season, according to Baseball Reference. Generally, switch-hitters will swing in the opposite direction of what the pitcher throws. This happens to give their eyes the...

What to do this weekend in Denver: Firecracker Comedy and Sun Valley night market

RiNo’s new “Friend” loves to danceThrough Sunday. Here’s an idea: a festival that combines concert dancing — that formal, and often pricey, experience at the theater — with the more approachable competitive and street-dancing styles. The result is Somebody’s Friend Movement and Music Festival, the River North Art District’s first big dance event.Taking place Thursday, May 18, through Sunday, May 21, Somebody’s Friend unites more than 40 (!!) local companies, big and small, with progressive showcases such as Saturday’s MAYhem and Magic Ball, which celebrates Denver’s LGBTQ Ballroom scene and features guest judge Renaldo Maurice (of HBO’s “Legendary Season Three” and Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater). The goal is to pay dancers what they’re worth, organizers said, while elevating the art form. Most shows and classes will take place in and around Denver Central Market’s parking lot, 2669 Larimer ...

Emerald Cup Picks California’s Finest Cannabis for 2023

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 10:33:09 GMT

The Emerald Cup was back for 2023 last weekend and repeat champions weren’t in short supply. This year would see the Emerald Cup’s award show move to the Bay Area for the first time after a long stint in wine country before the pandemic and last year’s show at The Montalbán in Hollywood. While nowhere in the state worth having the cup could be considered neutral territory given how many competitors dot the state from north to south, the Bay is one of the better spots to have it because it’s essentially halfway between L.A. and Arcata — most of the state’s cannabis enthusiasts and businesses lie between that two points, too. The venue at Richmond’s Craneway Pavilion was undoubtedly the most gorgeous the cup has seen since it left the redwoods in the early 2010s for bigger venues closer to population centers.  But the most beautiful sights to behold on the water’s edge were the glass cases filled with this year’s entries. As the judges, contestants and special guests entered the venue...
