The first A’s game back in Oakland since the organization announced its possible move to Las Vegas brought out many A’s fans who demanded owner John Fisher sell the team. That, apparently, is not a message MLB wants fans to see.The league appears to have altered the highlight video of Ryan Noda’s seventh inning home run to right-center on Friday night to hide messages against Fisher in the right field stands.MLB cropped the video so you can't see all the "sell the team" signs(h/t @OaklandAUK) pic.twitter.com/HzPZX63zvU— Jomboy Media (@JomboyMedia) April 29, 2023While the NBC Sports California broadcast showed the messages as the home run happened,  the altered video — which was still up on MLB’s website as of 10:15 a.m. on Saturday morning — zooms in so narrowly on a portion of the bleachers that didn’t have anti-Fisher messages that it actually missed the home run landing itself.Related ArticlesOakland Athletics | With Oakland A’s back in town, f...

Digital Security Tips to Prevent the Cops From Ruining Your Trip Abroad

Ernest Moret, a foreign rights manager for the French publishing house La Fabrique, boarded a train in Paris bound for London in early April. He was on his way to attend the London Book Fair. When Moret arrived at St. Pancras station in the United Kingdom, two plainclothes cops who apparently said they were “counter-terrorist police” proceeded to terrorize Monet. They interrogated him for six hours, asking everything from his views on pension reform to wanting him to name “anti-government” authors his company had published, according to the publisher, before proceeding to arrest him for refusing to give up the passwords to his phone and laptop. Following his arrest, Moret was released on bail, though his devices were not returned to him.The case, while certainly showcasing the United Kingdom’s terrifying anti-terror legislation, also highlights the crucial importance of taking operational security seriously when traveling — even when going on seemingly innocuous trips like a two-and-...

Minnesota woman who left newborn to die sentenced to prison

REDWING, Minn. (AP) — A Minnesota woman who admitted to leaving her newborn son to die near the Mississippi River two decades ago has been sentenced to 27 years in prison.Jennifer Matter, of Belvidere Township outside Red Wing, was sentenced Friday for second-degree murder, KARE-TV reported. She pleaded guilty in January to leaving the baby on the banks of the river in 2003. She was not arrested until May 10, 2022, after DNA evidence tied her to the boy, authorities said.Prosecutors have said the DNA evidence also links Matter to a baby girl found dead by the Mississippi in 1999 but she has not been charged in that case. According to the criminal complaint, Matter said she hoped someone would find the baby boy alive after she left him. Teenagers found the child’s body on Dec. 7, 2003, in Frontenac on the shore of Lake Pepin, a body of water on the Mississippi River. Source

Rams draft Georgia QB Stetson Bennett in 4th round

Published Fri, 21 Feb 2025 21:32:24 GMT

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Stetson Bennett will get a chance to deliver for the Los Angeles Rams.Georgia’s two-time national championship-winning quarterback was selected by the Rams in the fourth round of the NFL draft on Saturday, uniting him with coach Sean McVay and fellow former Georgia signal-caller Matthew Stafford on the West Coast. The 25-year-old Bennett’s unlikely route from junior college to the pinnacle of collegiate success has been well documented, but the NFL worthiness of the quirky quarterback known as “The Mailman” has been hotly debated for years. The Rams clearly believe in the 5-foot-11 passer with a knack for winning and making big throws in big games, even if his measurable talents don’t match other prospects.Bennett is the first quarterback drafted by the Rams since McVay became their head coach in 2017. He will join Stafford, the Super Bowl winner who is under contract for the next four seasons.Los Angeles hadn’t drafted a quarterback since t...

DC council member wants to add $2 rideshare surcharge for some downtown trips

A D.C. council member is advocating to include a $2 surcharge on rideshare trips, hoping to encourage more people to use public transit and decrease traffic congestion.Ward 1 Councilmember Brianne Nadeau is leading the effort to get the plan included in the District’s upcoming budget. She says the plan would help revitalize downtown D.C. by prioritizing public transit while also reducing pollution and noise. That fee would be added to rides to downtown and nearby neighborhoods from 7 a.m. to noon, and then to trips out of those same areas from noon to 7 p.m., seven days a week.“This will generate about $10 million in the first year, which will only cover the overnight bus,” Nadeau said, referring to the 24-hour bus service on at least 12 of D.C.’s busiest lines that the surcharge revenue would fund.Mayor Muriel Bowser called the plan a “terrible idea,” saying it would hurt efforts to reenergize downtown D.C.“Actually charging people to come d...

Injured Embiid ‘doubtful’ for Game 1, says 76ers coach

CAMDEN. N.J. (AP) — Philadelphia 76ers coach Doc Rivers says NBA MVP finalist Joel Embiid is doubtful for Game 1 of the playoff series against the Boston Celtics with a sprained right knee.Embiid was examined by doctors this week and has yet to practice ahead of Monday’s Eastern Conference semifinals opener at Boston. The Sixers have had the longest break of any NBA team after they swept the Brooklyn Nets last Saturday. Embiid was hurt in Game 3 and missed the next game.“If I was a betting man, I would probably say doubtful for at least Game 1, but we’ll see,” Rivers said Saturday at the 76ers’ facility in New Jersey. “He has to get better. He did nothing (today). Just wasn’t able to and obviously we were hopeful for today.”The 29-year-old Embiid, from Cameroon, averaged 33.1 points this season to win his second straight scoring title. He also averaged 10.2 rebounds and tied a career high with 4.2 assists per game. He played in 66 games, the second-highest to...

Braves-Mets game postponed by rain, split DH in August

NEW YORK (AP) — The game between the Atlanta Braves and New York Mets scheduled for Saturday has been postponed because of rain.It will be made up Aug. 12 as part of a split-admission doubleheader at Citi Field, with the opener starting at 1:10 p.m. and the nightcap at 7:15 p.m.The postponement until August means Mets ace Max Scherzer won’t be eligible to pitch in this series against the NL East rival Braves. The three-time Cy Young Award winner is serving a 10-game suspension imposed by Major League Baseball following his ejection for having a foreign substance on his hand while pitching in an April 19 game at Dodger Stadium.Scherzer’s penalty had been due to end Sunday and he was scheduled to start the series finale Monday against Atlanta. But with the rainout, Monday now would mark his 10th game sitting out, and he won’t be permitted back on the mound until at least Tuesday night in Detroit.Tylor Megill (3-1, 3.96 ERA) was slated to pitch Saturday for the Mets i...
